By The GM in Culture, The Sports World
After leaking last week, the new logo for the Brooklyn Nets became official yesterday as the franchise slams the door shut on its New Jersey era.
Created by the team of minority owner, hip hop icon and Brooklyn native Jay-Z, the new primary logo retains the shield from its previous iteration, and adds the Brooklyn ‘B’ to the basketball that has been part of every logo since the franchise’s 1967 inception as the Americans. The logo is also inspired by the Brooklyn Dodgers, who used a similar lettermark on their logo and caps. Brooklyn is also spelled out below. The secondary logo is a ‘B’ inside a basketball, surrounded by the words “Brooklyn New York.” According to Nets.com, Nets CEO Brett Yormark called this “the new badge for Brooklyn,” and Jay-Z believes the design’s boldness demonstrates confidence in the new direction.
An official unveiling event was held this morning at the Modell’s across the street from the Nets’ $1 billion dollar Barclays Center arena on Atlantic and Flatbush. The team’s “elder statesman” Brook Lopez stopped by to speak to fans.
Brooklyn’s uniforms will be unveiled in September.

The Crazy Day 1 of the 2012 NBA Playoffs
By The GM in The Sports WorldDay 1 of the 2012 NBA Playoffs were crazy to say the least. The day started out with a couple of Injuries that will put a sour taste in any NBA Fans mouth, as both Derrick Rose & Iman Shumpert tear their ACL’s just 2 hours apart from the other. Both are gone for the remainder of the Season… but we all know this means much more to the Chicago Bulls Championship hopes than anything else. Can CJ Watson & John Lucas III keep the ship afloat the way they did in the regular season? We’ll see. Wishing Derrick & Shump speedy recoveries!
And later in the day, we caught our first upset of the NBA Playoffs as the Orlando Magic stole Game 1 & Homecourt from the Indiana Pacers. Oh and not to forget… Kevin Durant did his usual w/ a Game-Winner to take Game 1 from the defending champion, Mavs. CRAZY.
